FREE WP-templates ??

First off,,
thanks to Omar for his FAST help during my installation process!:)
And the recent addition of the WP template converter is awesome.

Now my question.

Since nothing on the internet is free,,
Just how "FREE" are these wordpress templates?
There are sites all over offering "free" templates,, and that makes me wonder,,  what IS the catch?

Is there something in the template code that they benefit from?

Some java re-direct, or cookie stuffing code or what?

Anybody know why these templates are being given away by the thousands?

I just VIEW SOURCE after I posted,,

looks like a few things in there to steal people away from your sites.

I downloaded a bunch of "free" wp templates from various sites to convert into blogsolution.

Which blogsolution does in a blink of an eye. (thumbs up guys!)

But a heads up,,,
I have found some templates with "somebody's" ID code for google's adsense in the template code.

Probably so the template author can make money from our marketing efforts.

So check them out before you start making thousands of blogs.

The free templates usualy have some sort of payback in the form of a link or two back to the designer's sites or links sold to someone else. Copyright clauses prevents you from removing these links which is fair enough because the designer has spent time making these templates so this is his pay. As the saying goes "no such thing as a free lunch"
